EYS and retinal disorder: It has been demonstrated that Drosophila EYS is an extracellular protein, which is a member of a network of interactions critical to the formation of the inter-rhabdomeral space (IRS) in the D. melanogaster ommatidium [11, 12] Zelhof et al. have also shown that Drosophila EYS interacts with Prominin during the IRS formation and a subsequent study suggested that this interaction may be conserved in humans and compromised in retinopathies [12, 13].
