Stress plays an important role in the development and maintenance of alcohol use disorder (AUD).1 In response to stress, corticotropin releasing factor (CRF) activates the hypothalamic−pituitary−adrenal axis (HPA), leading to the subsequent release of glucocorticoids.2 Additionally, CRF mediates behavioral responses to stress via extrahypothalamic regions. Here, CRH is linked to alcohol abuse.
