Our argument is supported by a recent report by Kerur et al., who demonstrated that during Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpes virus infection in endothelial cells, interferon gamma-inducible protein 16 (IFI16) interacts with the adaptor molecule ASC and pro-caspase-1 to form a functional nuclear inflammasome [35]. The gene discussed is CASP1; the disease is Kaposi's sarcoma.
