SLC5A2 and type 2 diabetes mellitus: Between 2012 and 2014, three sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2-i), canagliflozin, dapagliflozin and empagliflozin, were approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) [4–6] and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) [7–10] for the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes.
