However with the recent identification of developmentally important genes, including the FGFs that regulate trophoblast survival and placental angiogenesis [45], and key epigenetic regulators, such as JMJD1C which is involved in regulating early preimplantation development of bovine embryos [46], we favor the hypothesis that maternal silencing is a mechanism to prevent ovarian teratomas that arise from parthenogenetically activated oocytes [47, 48]. This evidence concerns the gene JMJD1C and ovarian teratoma.
