These findings are relevant in view of the fact that hESCs have constitutively active Bax at the Golgi and are primed to undergo rapid apoptosis in a p53-dependent manner.19 It has also been demonstrated that the absence of an acute apoptotic response to AOM in p53-deficient mice is associated with an increased tumor incidence.20, 52 Further studies are needed to elucidate the combinatorial effects of diet on the translocation of active Bax from Golgi to mitochondria.
