To understand this phenomenon, we performed gene expression profiles and found, specifically in CCAR2-deficient cancer cells, a severe perturbation of the AKT pathway, which is frequently hyperactivated in several human tumors and in cancer cell lines.21 Accordingly, we discovered that CCAR2 depletion determines growth reduction and impairment of AKT activation in all the tested cancer cells, even if to a different extent because of the diverse growth rate of the analyzed cell lines. Here, CCAR2 is linked to cancer.
