According to by Albayrak et al. (2011), whether or not the serum level of HMGB1 could be used as a diagnostic biomarker for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis was merely another blind alley that remained to be seen according to the result of ROC, which is similar to the situation in our study, where the sensitivity was not sensitive enough while the specificity was very good according to the result of HMGB1. The gene discussed is HMGB1; the disease is appendicitis.
