An important aspect of leptin's role in the regulation of key processes implicated in eye diseases is its functional connection with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a major regulator of neoangiogenesis and vascular leakage with a proven role in ocular pathologies such as PDR, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME) (Miller, 2016). Here, LEP is linked to age-related macular degeneration.
