Two boronic acid-based compounds were identified, which were shown to bind to the active site of the ClbP enzyme involved in the synthesis of colibactin, and shown to suppress DNA damage and tumorigenesis induced by pks-harboring bacteria.71 While confirming the importance of colibactin toxin-producing E. coli in colon tumorigenesis, this study also provides a novel family of inhibitors to target pks-harboring bacteria in the treatment of CRC. The gene discussed is ARAF; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
