Indeed, in a particular genetically engineered GBM mouse model in which autophagy was disrupted, gliomagenesis or GBM formation was significantly reduced or completely inhibited.107In vitro studies showed an intact cellular growth, but a real senescence induction essentially characterized by activation of retinoblastoma 1 (RB1/p105) and an increase in CDKN1B/p27 level.107, 108, 109, 110 Thus, the induction of senescence, consecutively to autophagy dysregulation, needs to be investigated more thoroughly to constitute a hopeful therapy able to reduce GBM aggressiveness.
