Ceramide is thought to drive AD pathogenesis by playing a role in the execution of apoptosis (Hannun & Obeid, 2008; Hejazi et al., 2011), and stabilizing the β‐site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1), consequently promoting Aβ biogenesis (Puglielli et al., 2003). This evidence concerns the gene BACE1 and Alzheimer disease.
