Our findings support prior literature identifying predictors of acute morbidity and mortality in DMa patients to include increased age, male gender, poor functional status, preoperative dyspnea and sepsis, ventilator dependence, lower albumin, emergency operations, and multivisceral resections.[10, 11] We found similar predictors of prolonged hospitalizations, disposition to facilities other than home, and hospital readmissions among DMa patients. The gene discussed is ALB; the disease is Sepsis.
