In addition, MALAT1 was originally discovered to be a marker for metastasis development in early stage lung adenocarcinoma (Ji et al. 2003), and more recently it was shown to be a metastasis-related marker both in squamous cell carcinoma of the lung and hepatocellular carcinoma (Schmidt et al. 2011; Lai et al. 2012). The gene discussed is MALAT1; the disease is lung adenocarcinoma.
