IL10 and inflammatory bowel disease: Both of these models exhibit symptoms similar to those seen in human IBD, resulting from the disruption of either the Il10 gene (which encodes the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-10) or the Abcb1a gene (also known as Mdr1a, which encodes the membrane drug-efflux pump p-glycoprotein 3), and both have been used to investigate the effects of a range of foods or food components on inflammation.
