In MUC2(−/−) mice, a model of spontaneous chronic intestinal inflammation at an early age and intestinal tumors at three months, a diet enriched with 5% or 10% mulberry extract administered for three months, starting at 3–4 weeks of age, elicited a reduction in tumorigenesis and intestinal inflammation as estimated by the degree of mucosal damage and lymphocyte infiltration [49]. This evidence concerns the gene MUC2 and intestinal neoplasm.
