In parallel, a GWAS study revealed that an intergenic SNP (rs6834314) near HSD17B13 (encoding 17β-HSD13) and MAPK10 (encoding mitogen-activated protein kinase 10, MAPK10) is strongly associated with the concentration of plasma alanine transaminase (ALT) (P = 3.1 × 10−9), the main marker of hepatocellular injury (possibly representing fatty liver disease) (Chambers et al., 2011). Here, MAPK10 is linked to fatty liver disease.
