PFD is an orally administered pyridine (5-methyl-1-phenyl-2-[1H]-pyridone) that exhibits antifibrotic properties in a variety of in vitro and animal models of fibrosis as a TGF-β antagonist, and has been clinically developed for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) [17, 18]. This evidence concerns the gene TGFB1 and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
