While low PTH levels commonly result from surgical parathyroidectomy (PTX) and the prescription of calcimimetics, various other causes can result in low PTH levels, including an excessive calcium and vitamin D load and hypercalcemia [8, 9], as well as the malnutrition-inflammation syndrome [10–13] and prolonged immobilization [14].
