The role of the extracellular domain of MUC1, and in particular its aberrant glycosylation, in facilitating new protein-protein interaction and controlling intracellular signaling was confirmed by another of our studies revealing the ability of the tumor form of MUC1 to increase the expression levels of NF-κB family members, such as phospho-IκB kinase (IKK)-β and phospho-inhibitor od kappa B (IκB)-α. Here, MUC1 is linked to neoplasm.
