LIF and Cognitive impairment: In this regard, we found that LIF (leukemia inhibitory factor), which is hypomethylated in the hippocampus of samples from schizophrenic patients, could have an important role in the cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenic disabilities, since it induces neuronal cell differentiation and participates in the deterioration of working memory function (Okahisa et al., 2010).
