Much remains to be learned about cancer metabolic rewiring and the impact of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes, as examples c-Myc, Ras and p53, in the pentose phosphate pathway, redox homeostasis and mitochondrial respiration in cancer cells, and non-malignant cells in fully tumor conditions in vivo (Galluzzi et al., 2013). This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and cancer.
