In an effort to understand the role of ESE3/EHF in restraining stem-like phenotypes, we observed that in a panel of human prostate cancer cells IL-6 level was inversely correlated to ESE3/EHF and increased gradually from less aggressive, androgen-dependent and ESE3/EHF positive LNCaP to the more aggressive androgen-independent and ESE3/EHF negative DU145 cells (Figure 1A upper and lower panels). The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is prostate cancer.
