In terms of molecular face validity, our model showed alterations in the brain expression of a gene previously implicated in bipolar disorder and PP (Adcy8) (Jones et al., 2007) and a gene encoding a pro-inflammatory cytokine (Ccl2) whose levels are elevated in serum of individuals with PP (Bergink et al., 2013); the abnormal expression of these genes may contribute towards the behavioural profiles of the drug-treated mice. The gene discussed is ADCY8; the disease is bipolar disorder.
