Because, to the best of our knowledge, no data had previously been reported on the presence of Tβ4, Tβ4 sulfoxide, and Tβ10 in human saliva of patients with Sjögren’s syndrome (SS), the aim of this study was to investigate the presence and levels of salivary Tβs and the immunoreactivity of these peptides in minor salivary glands in a cohort of patients with SS and in patients with other autoimmune diseases, with and without sicca syndrome (ss), to better understand the possible role of these peptides in patients with pSS as well as patients with ss and other autoimmune diseases. This evidence concerns the gene SALL1 and Sjogren syndrome.
