The enzyme Lp-PLA2 or PAF-AH (EC 3.1.1.47) was first identified from plasma that was known to hydrolyze/inactivate PAF, a phospholipid mediator produced from macrophages, monocytes, platelets and neutrophils involved in inflammatory diseases including atherosclerosis [58,59]. The gene discussed is PLA2G7; the disease is atherosclerosis.
