Changes in filipin staining were found in NPC fibroblasts transfected with siRNA that targeted low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR, APOL1, NPC1, NPC1L1, NPC2, STARD3, STARD4, and RAB9A) and sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase 1, evidencing the role of these genes in lipid metabolism. The gene discussed is NPC1; the disease is nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
