The paraventricular thalamus (PVT), a midline thalamic nucleus, receives dense innervations from lateral hypothalamic orexin neurons (Peyron et al., 1998; Kirouac et al., 2005) and is involved in the regulation of cognition, anxiety, emotionality and addiction behaviors (Huang et al., 2006; Li et al., 2009, 2010a,b, 2011).
