MUC16 and ovarian carcinoma: Among the multitude of interesting genes, the gene MUC16/CA125, which is the most widely used biomarker of ovarian cancer in clinical practice, was highly upregulated in small putative cancer stem cells from “cancerous” ovaries in comparison to cells from “healthy” ovaries, hESCs, and fibroblasts (see Fig. 8f)59, 60.
