It should be remembered that while APC2 mutation is infrequent, gene silencing through varying degrees of promoter hypermethylation is extremely common in human breast cancers.2 Levels of promoter methylation correlate with levels of reduced protein expression.2, 49 These observations imply that reduced expression levels of APC2 are sufficient for tumorigenesis in the appropriate context.
