Consistent with the results of HPIP modulation of RCC cell migration and invasion, overexpression of HPIP promoted EMT, which has been shown to have a critical role in cancer cell migration and invasion,10 with morphologic changes from a polarized epithelial phenotype to an elongated fibroblastoid phenotype and with the decreased expression of the epithelial marker E-cadherin and increased expression of N-cadherin and Vimentin, two mesenchymal markers. This evidence concerns the gene CDH2 and cancer.
