Beneficial effects of NFE2L2 activation on liver lipid metabolism are controversially discussed, however, the hypothesis of a balanced NFE2L2‐dependent gene expression putatively represents the most physiological state in livers of diet‐induced obesity, because neither constitutive activation, nor complete inactivation of NFE2L2 was shown to prevent diet‐induced obesity and NAFLD (Seo and Lee, 2013). The gene discussed is NFE2L2; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
