The reason for this difference is unknown; however, it may suggest that the recruitment of monocytes to the CNS has a depleting effect on the serum sCD163 levels in patients with MS. This finding is supported by the finding in our previous study that 90% of the sCD163 found in the CSF is produced intrathecally (Stilund et al. 2014). Here, CD163 is linked to myeloid sarcoma.
