Another study demonstrated that DNA hypermethylation of NKX6-2 is a hallmark of CIMP at very early stages of renal carcinogenesis [23]. NKX6-2 was also identified as a biomarker in stages II and III lung adenocarcinoma, where it was hypomethylated in stage II and hypermethylated in stage III [24]. The gene discussed is NKX6-2; the disease is lung adenocarcinoma.
