Anshu et al. also identified 13 proteins to be significantly higher in the aqueous humour of 11 patients with a glaucoma tube implant using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry.43 These proteins play a role in oxidative stress, apoptosis, inflammation, and immunity, and their presence in the aqueous humour suggests that glaucoma tube implants cause either a breach in the blood–aqueous barrier or chronic trauma, increasing the influx of oxidative, apoptotic, and inflammatory proteins. This evidence concerns the gene PROS1 and glaucoma.
