Besides the SP, the presence of NFT, described as intraneural filamentous inclusions whose major constituent is aberrantly misfolded and abnormally hyperphosphorylated protein tau, correlates with the severity of the pathology and consequently with the neuronal loss in AD (Bierer et al., 1995; Gómez-Isla et al., 1997; Giannakopoulos et al., 2003), as we described in the Results section. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
