Thus, these results suggest that Atox1 is involved in Cu-dependent wound healing via promoting ECM maturation and angiogenesis by regulating VEGF expression and LOX activity in vivo. We cannot exclude the possibility that Cu chaperone Atox1 also delivers Cu to the ecSOD which plays an important role in ischemia- and wounding-induced angiogenesis, thereby promoting wound healing38, 39, 40. The gene discussed is ATOX1; the disease is ischemia.
