To prioritize the most biologically and clinically relevant lncRNAs, we focused on lncRNAs most highly expressed in breast cancer tissues, and those most directly regulated by ER, based on ER binding to the targets' promoter as well as the degree of induction of expression following oestrogen stimulation in breast cancer cells (Fig. 1c and Supplementary Fig. 2a). The gene discussed is ESR1; the disease is breast cancer.
