Previous molecular studies in human neuroblastoma cells have shown that ethanol exposure (100 mM) for 72 h is associated with increased formation of AEA and NAPE-PLD [50], and therefore the high expression of NAPE-PLD in female alcohol-exposed rats may be linked to high levels of N-acylethanolamines which will have to be elucidated.
