In the past decade, notable progress has been made toward understanding the physiopathology and biochemistry of stroke, and a number of ischemic injury-related proteins have been identified, such as calcium binding protein B (S100B), neuron-specific enolase (NSE), myelin basic protein (MBP) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) [1].
