Nasal polyps in patients with CRSwNP are inflammatory outgrowths of the paranasal sinus mucosa, which are generally characterized by TH2 inflammation, local immunoglobulin production, and eosinophil infiltration driven by IL-5 and eotaxin.17, 18, 19, 20 Up to 100% of patients with AERD express anti-SAE IgEs in their nasal polyp homogenates and often have a higher prevalence of comorbid asthma and eosinophilic inflammation,17, 21, 22, 23 and IgEs from nasal polyps activate basophils in response to allergens and SEB in vitro.15 The gene discussed is IL5; the disease is nasal cavity polyp.
