ARG1 and cancer: In view of the in vivo experiments showing that pretreatment of CD11b+-cells with EDA-FN together with the inhibitor of α5β1 integrin or the arginase inhibitor was enough to counteract enhanced growth induced by EDA-FN exposure alone, it seems reasonable to conclude that EDA-FN acting on α5β1 integrin changes the behavior of CD11b+-cells towards a more suppressive phenotype characterized by increased arginase-1 and resulting in enhanced cancer growth or diminished fibrosis.
