The Molecular Genetics Laboratory of IHG‐NIH has focused its services on molecular‐based testing for the more common genetic conditions among Filipinos such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and X‐linked Dystonia Parkinsonism (XDP) as well as those genetic disorders which are part of the newborn screening program, such as MSUD, Phenylketonuria (PKU), Methylmalonic Acidemia (MMA), Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH), Glucose‐6‐Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) Deficiency, alpha and beta‐thalassemia. The gene discussed is G6PD; the disease is congenital adrenal hyperplasia.
