PANK2 and malaria: In the absence of an in vitro assay to determine the activity of recombinant Plasmodium PanK1 and PanK2, the P. yoelii knockouts generated in this study will help future metabolic and biochemical analyses to characterize the metabolism of CoA precursors in this parasite and help gain a better understanding of this process, and its inhibition by pantothenate analogs in human malaria parasites.
