PRNP and scrapie: More recent research has suggested that PRNP genetics in goats may also play a role on susceptibility to scrapie, with polymorphisms at codons 127 (serine [S127] instead of glycine [G127]), 142 (methionine [M142] instead of isoleucine [I142]), 146 (S146 and aspartic acid [D146] instead of asparagine [N146]), 154 (H154 instead of R154), 211 (Q211 instead of R211) and 222 (lysine [K222] instead of Q222) giving some protective effect against classical scrapie in goats [8].
