Recent evidence has indicated a key role for mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2) in a wide array of heart diseases including ischemic heart disease [11-13], dilated cardiomyopathy [14], alcoholic cardiomyopathy [15, 16], diabetic cardiomyopathy [17, 18], and cardiac aging [19].
