ORMDL3 and asthma: The reduced sensitivity of the smooth muscle from Ormdl3 KO mice to pharmacologically induced contraction may therefore be due to decreased intracellular calcium concentrations as a result of increased SERCA2b-mediated uptake to the ER in the absence of ORMDL3, and reduced activity of SERCA in airway smooth muscle is thought to contribute to airway remodeling in those with moderate/severe asthma.30
