In polarized epithelial cells, there is unambiguous evidence for a functional relationship between Arf6 and E-cadherin: the activation of Arf6 facilitates the internalization of E-cadherin from adherens junctions, thereby triggering epithelial–mesenchymal transition, during wound healing and cancer invasion (Palacios et al., 2001, 2002; Luton et al., 2004). Here, ARF6 is linked to cancer.
