As an example, we recently described the first clinical utilization of a fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) histology assay to quantify the level of HER1-HER3 dimer formation in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) basal-like breast cancer tissues from patients treated unsuccessfully with anti-EGFR treatments (cetuximab or panitumumab). The gene discussed is ERBB3; the disease is breast cancer.
