Stockmann et al. suggested that the discrepancy observed between various studies in the effect of VEGF inhibition on pulmonary fibrosis could be due to the fact that, although VEGF inhibitors may inhibit early damage, VEGF may be important for subsequent repair processes and so inhibiting VEGF in this situation would in fact be detrimental [40]. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is pulmonary fibrosis.
